Sunshine Award

I would like to thank my friend Delvalina at Falling in Love with Jesus for nominating me for the Sunshine Award. Delvalina blogs from her home in Indonesia, and she is proof that blogging makes the world just a little bit smaller!

We have been blog friends for some time now, and she is such a faith-filled person. I hope you will all go and visit her. You may remember her name. I was one of the winners of her blog contest a few months ago.

As part of her rules for the nomination, Delvalina has provided some questions for me to answer. I am very glad for the direction. It’s a little easier than trying to think of interesting things to say…

1.    Your most favorite Bible Story in Old and New Testament?

Wow. Great question.

Ok, Old Testament first. I love following the life of Moses. One of my favorite stories is the battle against the Amalekites. In order to win the battle, Moses had to hold up his hands. As long as he did that, the Israelites would do well.

It was so tiring that Aaron and Hur had to support his hands as he sat on a rock. It shows me that God gives us the key to success, but the path is not always easy. And we need each other’s help!

New Testament. I am always drawn to the courage of the woman with the hemmorhage. I suppose working in an OB/GYNE office makes me more sensitive to this poor woman, but there are so many themes at work in this small story. She had so much faith and courage! She was desperate. To me, that’s when we are the most reliant on the Lord. We try our best, but it nothing works, we have to rely completely on our faith. Just like she did.

2.    One favorite thing you do in the morning.

I am not a morning person. I’m more of a late afternoon/ evening person. So…my favorite thing in the morning (besides prayer) is coffee and the crossword puzzle. And quiet. Love that quiet.

3.   Do you have a blog you love to visit by you won’t leave a comment (secret             admirer of another blog?)

Nope. If I visit, I generally comment.

4.  Your current favorite worship song and singer?

I mentioned in a recent post that I am enjoying Better Than a Halleluja by Amy Grant.

5.  Your comfort daily style?

I usually wear jeans and a sweatshirt. I’m always cold. I might wear a teeshirt and sweater just to switch it up.

6.  Who is the person that you really want to meet now?

Well, I harbor this dream that someday, everyone who visits this blog would meet and go out to dinner with me. That would be so much fun! And so many of you know each other, it would give everyone a chance to visit.

7.   Are you in kind of 40 days of Christ’s Passion?

My husband and I do observe the season of Lent. We attend the Stations of the Cross on Friday evenings, and do not eat meat that day. Rather than ‘give up’ anything for Lent, I am trying to establish some good habits in faith, especially in prayer.

8.  Book that you are reading currently?

I tend to have about three books going at once. I did just finish Dad is Fat which was very funny. I am also reading Joel Osteen, who is such an encouraging writer. And I am in the middle of a historical novel.

9.  What country that you most want to be visited?

I have never been to Australia. The photos I see of Sidney Harbor are so beautiful.

10.  Foreign language that you have wanted to learn?

When I was younger, I took a class in American Sign Language. I really don’t remember any of it now, but I’d love to take some classes again.

Thank you for those thought-provoking questions! And thank you Delvalina, for naming me as one of your ten Sunshine Award nominees.

I would like you all to be nominated too! Just grab the image, and answer the same questions that I answered. (They are such good ones!) You can name five to ten bloggers yourself to receive the award, or open it up to everyone.

I wish we could go out to dinner…do you like Italian food? (If not, what kind of food do you like to get at a restaurant?)

May God bless us, and continue to grace us to be sunshine for each other.

  1. I love the idea of getting together for dinner with a bunch of us bloggers. My husband is always saying I should take a REAL blog tour and visit the people I have “met” through blogging. What fun that would be!

    • Hi Pam! Wouldn’t that be so much fun? I would absolutely go to dinner with you. If you don’t like Italian food, I can be flexible 🙂

      Have a peaceful night,

    • Hi Mari! Thank you for your kind comment, you are so nice!

And I would love to go to dinner with you Mari. You work at a care facility, right? We’d have much to talk about, I just know it 🙂

  2. My friend…If anyone were deserving of The Sunshine Award…it is you!!!

I so enjoyed reading more about you…

We part ways in the morning person department. I love the wee hours of the morning…the stillness, the quiet, the possibilities…
Unfortunately, that means I am quite tired early on in the evening!

We do share a love of Italian food, however!
Pasta, sauce, garlic bread? I’m there!!!!!

Have a cozy evening, my sunny friend!

    • Hi Billie Jo! I wish I did love mornings, believe me. I do get up early to have some quiet time, but not until I have bashed on the snooze alarm a few times. (I’m surprised that clock is still in one piece!)

Oooh, you have my number with the menu. I know you are such a good cook…but I’d give you a break and we’d go out 🙂

Thank you for your kind comment my friend,

  3. My sweet new friend – you are the Sunshine Girl! How fun to learn so much about you. Guess what? I love coffee and crossword puzzles in the morning too. And Italian food. So…let’s have a meeting in a cabin somewhere overlooking the water. We can cook Italian food for dinner and then sit out on the porch sipping a warm cup o’ joe…

    • Hi Connie! Oh my gosh, it’s like we’re twins or something. That schedule for the day sounds amazing 🙂

My dream place is a little summer house on a lake. Heaven!
Here’s to good coffee and conversation,

  4. Evening Ceil, You are full of sunshine indeed! A much deserved recognition! My time has been limited and all over the place of late….does that make any sense? No one should be this busy! I have read some of your posts but not commented as of late. I’ve been going to bed a little earlier….I Enjoy your writings~~~Blessings and have a wonderful weekend~~~Roxie

    • Hi Roxie! What a treat to see you here! No need to apologize. You have many blog-friends and only so much time in the day. Thank you for your kind comment here.

I need to get to bed earlier too. It helps on the other end when it’s time to wake up!
      Have a restful night,

    • Hi Mary! I like that about these awards, you learn little fun things about the bloggers.

Isn’t that great to know we have a few things in common? And I have always been attracted to that miracle. So much going on in that small part of the Scripture…such a courageous woman.

      Hugs right back 🙂

  5. Congratulations, Ceil! A lovely award! I am like yourself, I am not a morning person, either…hard to believe that I used to be, though. I also love crossword puzzles.

    • Hi Linda! I think I heard that doing puzzles helps keep you mentally sharp…I hope that’s true, don’t you? 🙂

I think it’s wonderful that you were a morning person at all. I never was. My favorite shift working as a nurse was 3 to 11pm. Now nurses work 10 and 12 hour days!

Thank you for your visit today Linda!

  6. Yes, I want to go out to dinner with you too:)
Very interesting to read your answers. I might answer the question in my blog one og this days:)

    • Hi Joy! Yay! Wouldn’t it be fun for all of us to go out together?

I hope you do answer some of these questions, they are good ones, aren’t they?

      Have a blessed Thursday 🙂

  7. Great to learn a bit more about you. By the comments you always leave, I know you are like a ray of sunshine so you deserve this award! Big hugs. xx

    • Hi Lauren! Thank you, and I think there are a lot of people who want to go out to dinner. Wouldn’t that be fun? I don’t think we’d ever run out of things to talk about 🙂

      Have a blessed Thursday,

    • Hi Patty! Thank you for visiting, I know that you are busy. And thank you for naming as one of your Sunshine Award recipients too.

I pray you are having a blessed week. I have been thinking about you and your husband.

  8. Congratulations, Ceil, on your very well-deserved award! I loved reading the answers to your questions & getting to know you better! I’ve also always loved the story of the woman who was healed by touching the hem of His garment, and my husband and I used that imagery as an inspiration for the choreography of our dance, “Save Me Jesus.”
I think that in Heaven, if not sooner, we can look forward to a huge banquet and long time to get to know all of us connected through our blogs, and what a lovely reunion that will be!
    God bless,

    • Hi Laurie! I’ll check out your dancing for sure, I enjoyed watching one before…and it’s based on this Scripture? That’s wonderful!

You are so right. If we don’t meet on earth, we will surely meet in heaven, with God’s grace. That will be some party 🙂

  9. Ceil, no one deserves this more than you, my sweet friend! And yes, I would also love to join the party of bloggers! Wouldn’t that just be awesome?

    Blessings to you!

    • Hi Debby! Thank you for your sweet comment, you are such a great blog-friend. I would love to get a party of bloggers together…that would be so much fun 🙂

Have a wonderful Thursday my friend,

  10. Congratulations Sunshine girl!! 🙂
I so enjoyed reading a little bit about you. We just learned of Moses holding up his arms and how we need one another for encouragement and help last night at Bible study. A good reminder to be there for one another.
I love your idea of dinner, ill get those reservations made right away! 🙂
Have a blessed day my friend.
    Joy! Debbie

    • Hi Debbie! Encouragement is such a great word to describe the need God has for us to lift each other up. I love that! Thank you 🙂

It would be so great to get the group together and break bread together. I just love the idea more and more! Too bad we don’t live in one little area. That would be a great time.

  11. I love these answers to these questions Ceil!

Moses and his ongoing stance with Pharoah rivets me but there are so many Old Testament stories I enjoy. I love the story of creation. It’s so vivid.

I, like you, need my peace, quiet, prayer, Bible and morning coffee. I can’t do a day without it.

I observed lent this year by doing rather than giving up something. It was so empowering! Just the other day I became away of the Margaret Feinberg lent challenge of reading the New Testament in 40 days. I think I’ll do that next year… talk about spiritually “full” by the time Easter arrives!

    Wishing you a blessed day.

    • Hi Jennifer! I had the privilege of proclaiming the Genesis reading at our Easter Vigil Celebration this year. What a reading! Gift after gift, joy after joy.

I am so happy for you! You were so prepared for Easter Sunday. Sounds like you continue to be ‘on fire’ for the Lord!

    • Hi Lulu! Oh, I do like Mexican food! I lived in Arizona for two years, they have excellent chimichangas there…yum 🙂

Thank you for your encouraging comment, I really appreciate it. And you are right, may all glory be his.
      Have a wonderful afternoon,

    • Hi TC! I do love my coffee. I saw an image once that said something like ‘the best part of going to bed at night is knowing that when I wake up, I can drink coffee!’ I really laughed at that true!

Thank you for stopping by and for your lovely comment too.

  12. Congratulations on your award…it has the right title as your blog brings sunshine to many of us. What a fun time to meet for dinner with all our blogger friends… you ever wonder what each persons voice sounds like? 🙂 I enjoyed reading your answers…it is always interesting to learn about each other. Have a sun filled day and let your light shine. 🙂

    • Hi Dee! Thank you for your supportive comments, I really appreciate them.

Oh yes, I do wonder what voices sound like…what it would be like to hear words, and not just read them…
I have thought about doing a Vlog once in while, but I chicken out. I’ll do it someday. I like these question things too, it is fun to hear about other bloggers!

So glad you are feeling better Dee. God bless,

  13. I’d love to meet you and take you to dinner! I live in southern IL; we can meet in the middle! I’ve met several of my blog buddies, and a couple have become close friends.

    I love Joel Osteen, too!

This was fun to get to know you, Ceil. Thanks for sharing yourself with us.

    • Hi Jeanette! I was just in Carbondale/Murphysboro last week! Shoot. I should have posted this earlier. That would be so much fun to meet you. Next time for sure.

Joel Osteen really picks up my spirit. He’s so positive and encouraging. I need that sometimes…well, maybe all the time 🙂
Fun to learn that we are at least in the same state!

    • Hi Mindy! They were really good questions, weren’t they? And thank you for your generous comment too.

Oh yes, I’d love to go to dinner! Glad to have another Italian food fan in the bunch. I don’t think the talking would ever end…such a treat!

Have a restful night my friend,

    • Hi Susan! You are so generous! I wish we could all get together, it would be just fascinating to learn more about each other, wouldn’t it?

So nice to see you here 🙂

  14. That dinner sounds fabulous and I’m so grateful that I will be able to sit across the table with you soon. Loved that this gave me a chance to get to know a few more things about you before we meet. 🙂 This was so much fun to read. Much love.

    • Hi Beth! I am so happy that it worked out. It sure sounds like everyone here would love the chance to meet and talk…we are so blessed to be able to actually do it!

Looking forward to seeing you 🙂

  15. Hi Ceil! If anyone deserves the Sunshine Award, it is you. I can imagine you as a jeans and sweatshirt person. I guess because your writings about your life are not stiff or stuffy, but somewhat easy and laid back. When I lived in Michigan, I lived in jeans and sweatshirts and still do during the winters in North Carolina. Continue to shine brightly in the blog community. Your light is much needed. 🙂

    • Hi Marilyn! I take the whole ‘not stiff or stuffy’ as a wonderful compliment. Thank you 🙂

I think we can continue to shine to each other, don’t you? I’m so happy that we are connected through our blogs.
      Have a wonderful Friday!

  16. I loved learning more about you Ceil! You spread a bit of sunshine in our blogging world. I think an Italian dinner with blogging friends sounds awesome. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many bloggers over the seven years I’ve been blogging. It was wonderful to see their sweet faces in person.

    Blessings and love,

    • Hi Debbie! I am so happy for you! You have met other bloggers? I think that would be so much fun. And so interesting to hear how they decided to start blogging etc..

Maybe someday I’ll get out to Arizona again. I’d love to have an Italian dinner with you 🙂

  17. Good Morning Ceil
A perfect award for someone who brings joy and sunshine to so many people.
I was not a morning person but since I started taking care of my granddaughter Rose over 2 years ago, I had to quickly become one.
I now love the mornings as I listen to some wonderful music on my way to Rose’s on my cirrus radio, a nice way to start my day and not much traffic.

I am very casual in dress , like you

There are so many bloggers I would love to meet and you are without a doubt one of them.
    I love Italian food 🙂

Wishing you a wonderful and blessed weekend dear Ceil

    • Good Morning My Friend! Thank you for your lovely comment today 🙂
Yes, nothing like caring for toddlers to change your schedule around, right? I bet you are a wonderful influence on her, and vice versa too.

I wish we could go out for some food and chat, wouldn’t that be fun? But I’m so happy that we are connected through our blogs.
      Have a happy Friday!

  18. Congrats on the award! I’m with you on the morning coffee with peace and quiet. I NEED that time without human interaction! My brain is always fuzzy until the caffeine kicks in. I also dream of going to Australia one day but that might be a problem since I don’t fly……

    • Hi Marcia! Well, I think you can cross Australia off your list then. Even cruises will want you to fly to their ports…at least I think so!

Good to meet another slow starter in the mornings. It’s just not my favorite time of the day.

      Have a great weekend 🙂

  19. Congratulations on the award. I love both of the stories you chose. And, I would so enjoy going to dinner with fellow bloggers for Italian!!!

    • Hi Deb! There are so many inspirational stories in the bible, aren’t there? I’m glad you liked what I picked!

I would love to arrange a lovely Italian dinner for all of us. So fun! Some have said that they have met with fellow bloggers before. So maybe someday we will too 🙂

      Have a wonderful evening!
